The Water Project
Access to water is the spark that ignites change in communities struggling under drought and scarcity. It fuels health, empowers education, supports food security, and opens doors to economic opportunities. Without access to water, these communities face endless challenges. Underserved communities around the world deserve clean water, and together we can make it happen. With water, they begin to thrive.
Where Our Water Journey Began
For years, XO World Project Foundation co-founders Colleen Brennan and Dr. Stephanie Walsh witnessed firsthand the challenges communities faced during their medical missions. They saw that many of the health concerns affecting families and children extended far beyond the walls of a hospital or clinic.
One of the most pressing needs they encountered was access to clean, reliable water.
Families often had to travel long distances to collect water, while children and students could spend valuable hours walking to and from water sources. For some communities, finding enough water for drinking, cooking, washing, and farming was a daily challenge.
The lack of reliable water can have a ripple effect throughout an entire community. Children may lose valuable learning time while collecting water. Families can face greater challenges maintaining hygiene and protecting their health. Farmers struggle to grow food during dry seasons, limiting both food security and opportunities to earn a living.
Colleen and Stephanie knew that addressing these challenges meant looking beyond medical care and investing in the conditions that help communities stay healthy and thrive.
In 2024, XO World Project Foundation began its water initiative in Ghana, installing Solar-Mechanized Borehole Wells and Manual Pump Borehole Wells to provide sustainable access to clean water.
Our Solar-Mechanized Borehole Wells also support our Dry Season Farming initiatives, providing a reliable water source for agriculture when rainfall is limited. By making water available for farming, these projects help communities grow crops beyond the rainy season, strengthen food security, and create opportunities for farmers to generate income.
The work continued to grow. In 2025, we expanded our water efforts to Kenya, beginning our school water tank projects. These tanks work alongside rainwater-catching systems, helping schools collect and store water for students and their communities.
What began with seeing a need during medical missions has grown into a commitment to help communities build a more reliable foundation for health, education, food security, agriculture, and economic opportunity.
Because water is more than a basic need. Water creates possibility.
